COMPASS Test

COMPASS PLACEMENT EXAM TESTING INFORMATION

All new students with fewer than 30 transfer hours are required to take the ACT COMPASS. This computerized placement tool tests your skills in math, reading and writing. The results are used to place each student in the appropriate level courses. If you are a student with 30 or more transfer hours, you are exempt. Achievement on these tests determines a student’s placement in their core curriculum courses. The test scores and transcripts you submit to the Admission Office will be used to determine if you are required to take the placement test.  In general, if you have a “C” or better in a college-level, non-remedial English or Math class from an accredited institution, you will not be required to take that portion of the test.

Students whose scores meet the following standards are also exempt from the University’s placement test: (You need to bring verification of your scores for exemption)

  1. SAT Total Score (Verbal plus Quantative) equal to or greater than 1200: Verbal 640 or above, Quantitative 560 or above.
  2. ACT Composite Score equal to or greater than 27
  3. THEA total score equal to or greater than 680: Mathematics 230 or above, Reading 230 or above, Writing 220 or above.
  4. TOEFL total score equal to or greater than 500 on the paper TOEFL or 173 on the computerized TOEFL.
